ForsythNews.com just published an article with some more details on plans to connect the Forsyth and Alpharetta segments of the Big Creek Greenway. The connection of the two trails, in addition to further expansion into Forsyth County, would create a continuous trail system spanning 35 miles from Roswell into Cumming. The recent extension of the Alpharetta Big Creek Greenway to Marconi Drive brought the trails .85 miles closer to that goal.

According to Tim Allen, Forsyth County assistant director of engineering, the construction could start in 2012 and be completed in spring of 2013.

After Big Creek River reached over 12 feet Tuesday following 10+ inches of rain over the weekend, it has reopened. Covered in mud, with lots of trees down and signs uprooted, it will take some time for the Greenway to be cleaned up.
Be cautious while using the trail this weekend, as the ground is completely saturated and rain is in the forecast. This is the perfect combination for flash flooding, even from small showers upstream that may not bring rain locally.
